Day 1
Arrival in Arusha
You’ll be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. After checking in, you’ll meet your mountain guide for a full briefing, gear inspection, and Q&A session to prepare for your trek. Dinner and overnight at a comfortable lodge.
Day 2
Arusha to Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)
After breakfast, drive approximately 3–4 hours to Londorossi Gate for registration. From there, drive further to the trailhead at Lemosho and begin your trek through the lush rainforest. The trail is alive with birds, monkeys, and towering fig trees. Hike for 3–4 hours to reach Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for your first night on the mountain.
Day 3
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)
Today’s hike takes you out of the rainforest and onto the moorland zone, where you’ll see giant heathers and volcanic rock formations. Ascend gently with wide views over the Shira Plateau. You’ll reach Shira 1 Camp in the early afternoon, giving you time to rest and enjoy the open landscape and big sky.
Day 4
Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
A shorter, slower acclimatization day. You’ll cross the plateau west to east, enjoying sweeping views of Kibo Peak. Along the way, keep an eye out for eland or other high-altitude wildlife. Camp is set near Shira Cathedral, a prominent volcanic rock feature. Optional short hikes are available in the afternoon.
Day 5
Shira 2 to Moir Hut (4,200m)
Climb out of the Shira Plateau and ascend steadily to Moir Hut, a quiet and remote campsite tucked into a high-altitude valley. This route avoids the busier southern trail and increases your chances of proper acclimatization. After arrival, you may take an acclimatization walk up the Lent Hills, with incredible views over northern Tanzania and into Kenya.
Day 6
Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp (4,020m)
Today’s trail takes you along the rarely visited northern slopes of Kilimanjaro. The path undulates across valleys and ridges, offering stunning panoramas and solitude. Stop for lunch with views of the vast plains below. Arrive at Buffalo Camp in the afternoon, perched on a ridge with expansive views.
Day 7
Buffalo Camp to Third Cave Camp (3,870m)
Continue along the remote northern flank with gentle ascents and descents. The trail is dry and rugged, offering a peaceful wilderness experience. You’ll gradually descend to Third Cave Camp — another secluded site — where you’ll rest before the push toward high camp.
Day 8
Third Cave to School Hut (4,750m)
This short but steep hike takes you up to School Hut, your final base before summit night. Arrive in the early afternoon and rest while your guide gives a final briefing. Eat an early dinner, hydrate well, and head to bed — the summit push begins at midnight.
Day 9
School Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Wake at midnight and begin the slow, challenging ascent under the stars. Reach Gilman’s Point at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend carefully to Barafu for a break, then continue down to Mweka Camp for a final overnight in the forest zone.
Day 10
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Arusha
After breakfast, trek through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here you’ll receive your summit certificate and meet your driver for the return transfer to Arusha. Celebrate your incredible achievement with a hot shower and farewell dinner.
