Drive to the Rongai Gate and begin trekking through the forest to Simba Camp (2,600m).

Day 2
Trek to Second Cave Camp (3,450m)
Trek to Second Cave Camp (3,450m), passing through moorland vegetation. Enjoy distant views of Kibo and the Eastern Icefields.
Day 3
Continue to Kikelewa Camp (3,630m).
Continue to Kikelewa Camp (3,630m). The trail becomes steeper, and you begin to feel the altitude.
Day 4
A short but steep hike leads to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,315m)
A short but steep hike leads to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,315m), located beneath the impressive spires of Mawenzi Peak.
Day 5
Acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn
Acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn with optional hikes up the surrounding ridges.
Day 6
Trek across the Saddle
Trek across the Saddle (a high-altitude desert) to Kibo Hut (4,700m) for your summit base. Early dinner and rest.
Day 7
Begin the summit attempt at midnight
Begin the summit attempt at midnight. Reach Gilman’s Point and continue to Uhuru Peak for sunrise. After celebrating, descend to Horombo Hut.
Day 8
Final descent to Marangu Gate
Final descent to Marangu Gate for pickup and return to Moshi or Arusha.
