Day 1
Arrive at Marangu Gate (1,860m)
Arrive at Marangu Gate (1,860m) and begin the trek through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,700m), a 4-5 hour hike. Enjoy views of giant ferns and colobus monkeys.
Day 2
Hike through heathland to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Hike through heathland to Horombo Hut (3,720m), with views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The 5-6 hour trek offers acclimatization opportunities.
Day 3
Acclimatization day at Horombo Hut
Acclimatization day at Horombo Hut. Optional short hike to Zebra Rocks or further toward Mawenzi for better altitude adjustment.
Day 4
Trek across alpine desert to Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Trek across alpine desert to Kibo Hut (4,700m). This 5-6 hour hike sets you up for the summit bid. Early dinner and rest.
Day 5
Around midnight, begin the summit attempt to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
Around midnight, begin the summit attempt to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) via Gilman’s Point. After sunrise at the summit, descend to Horombo Hut for overnight.
Day 6
Final descent to Marangu Gate.
Final descent to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Arusha or Moshi.
